Michael Hodge

Founder of Quiz Maker and author of its guides to making quizzes, tests and assessments.

About Michael

Michael Hodge co-founded Quiz Maker with Martyn Stephens in 2003 and has led the company ever since. Martyn wrote the original platform. Michael leads the company, its frontend work and its customer-led growth, and he writes the guides you will find on this site.

He studied psychology at the University of Wollongong, with coursework in psychometrics and research methods, and has extensive experience in questionnaire and survey design across educational and applied settings. That is the lens he brings to quiz making: a question is only useful if people read it the way you meant it, and a score is only useful if you can explain what it means.

He also founded SeeMyPersonality, where he directs test design and the content that explains results. For the company behind these guides, see About Quiz Maker.

What he writes about here

His guides are practical: what to do in the Quiz Maker editor, in what order, and why it matters to the people who will take your quiz. They cover five kinds of work.

  • Writing questions. Clear stems, wrong answers that reflect real mistakes, and one correct answer you can defend.
  • Scoring and results. Pass marks, outcome logic for personality and product quizzes, and result screens that tell people something useful.
  • Quizzes for training and teaching. Staff tests with certificates, and question banks you can export to Moodle, Blackboard and other LMSs.
  • Quizzes for marketing. Lead capture, product recommendations and where to ask for an email address.
  • Quizzes for fun. Trivia nights and quizzes that test how well your friends know you.
